The Weekly Smile for the 16th of August, 2021 #weeklysmile

Hi All! Last week was a very busy week, but mostly busy in a good way. I did work for most of the week (well, a little over half), and it was super busy at work. I also did a lot of work around my Cape Cod house. But I also had some fun :) I had a nephew and a niece visit.

Many of the things I did were pretty close to “normal”, such as long walks in the woods or on the beach and kayaking. But there was also stuff with the kids. I went to the beach and swam on my own, which was fine, but it was different swimming with the kids. I kayaked by myself, which is always at an almost racing pace, and also kayaked while my niece was on the stand up paddle board. that is much, much slower, but it is sometimes nice to just enjoy the water, the views, etc. and not paddle like a maniac ;)

i did have a lot of time alone since the kids had surfing lessons at a beach 45 minutes away. They did a lot with my wife (they are actual her family). But that is fine.

The Weekly Smile for the 9th of August, 2021 #weeklysmile

Some of you may have noticed that my blogging has slowed down considerably over the last week. Pretty much I have been too busy to blog. I’ve put up a few posts (I write very fast), but have done very little reading. I’ve also missed a few of the weekly challenges I usually participate in.

It is part being busy at work, part being busy writing/reading/editing and partly being busy doing fun, summer stuff. Even though I am working, I have company visiting so don’t want to have my nose in a computer when I am not working.

The Weekly Smile for the 2nd of August, 2021 #weeklysmile

Hi! This week might seem like a weird one (as if last week wasn’t ;) ), but it was a huge smile.

About two and half years ago I bought a house on Cape Cod. There is a strong possibility that in the future I may live there full time. For now it is more of a get-away, but a fully functional house where I can live and work on my get-away.

One thing with the house is that there was a lot of work to be done. I have done some of the electrical (I have a lot to go!), a little plumbing, I had the house painted, a new roof on the barn, the barn sided, etc. There is still a long way to go… One thing is appliances. Not only are the existing appliance old, but some did not exist at all.

The Weekly Smile for the 26th of July, 2021 #weeklysmile

I am going to chose a very strange weekly smile this week! Well, before I get to it, I will talk about a few minor smiles – I did some drawing and computer art that I thought turned out well. I’m looking at book covers, so I can’t share quite yet… I also did some writing, which is always nice, and enjoyed some reading. None of that is worth an entire “Smile” post, and most of the week was pretty normal, except that I was carless. Is that word? Anyway, I was without a car from Sunday through Saturday.

I’ve written about my car woes elsewhere, and they are not really smile worthy, so I won’t mention that part here. But there is the sequel…

Although it has been nice since I picked up the car so I have been driving with the windows down, I did check out the air system. It actually works and the entire car doesn’t shake when I turn it on! The blower is fine, the air conditioner cools and the heater heats.

The Weekly Smile for the 19th of July, 2021 #weeklysmile

I’ll admit, this was a mixed bag of a week. Of course, since it was a “mixed bag”, that means there were good things, right? In fact, a few of the up spots were very up :)

Last month I posted about our first face-to-face Lions Club meeting in over a year. Well, we had another, our yearly July cookout at one of the member’s house. It was nice to see everyone.

I also went down to Cape Cod over the weekend. Perhaps it being another bonding trip with Alexander was a high spot…

I didn’t do a lot down there and there issues, but I had a great paddle on Saturday morning. I didn’t go far away in a straight line, but I explored all of the local coves and so was actually paddled quite a distance. It was foggy, but fine. I saw a seal, baby osprey, etc. I also swam in the ocean on Saturday, and that was nice.

Those were my smiles for the week, a Lions Club cookout, having several days on the Cape with Alexander and doing a great paddle and nice Swim on Saturday.

What made you smile?

****

Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week.  Why don’t you share it?  I hope you can join in!

Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas.  If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity.  Don’t smile about the misfortune of others.  Don’t smile in a way to excludes others.  Make sure a 12 year old can read it.

To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile.  Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ).   You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me).   Next week I will compile all of the Smiles and do a separate post of them on Monday morning just before the smile.  (I will shoot for around 7 AM EST).
