The Fireborn

Fireborn Cover

It was late August, 2013.  I had been locked in my little office for hours hunched in front of a PC.  I stopped typing, cocked my head and looked at the screen confusedly.  I put my hands back on the keyboard and with slow deliberation typed seven characters, including the space.  Seven!  Is there a better number?  For seven is the number of the young light, at least so I heard.  What I wrote was “The End”.  The End!  Yes, I had finished the first draft of my book, The Fireborn!

So, what is the The Fireborn?  Listen:

In the shadowy area where myth and history collide, an unlikely hero is forced to save the world from an ancient Celtic curse. Dr. Elliot Everett-Jones knows that shadowy area well, having spent most of his life exploring its dimensions as given by a host of unreliable sources and imaginative speculation. Some would say he daydreams over the improbable plots of second-rate Romantic era authors. These fantasies, however, come to life after the discovery of the Cauldron of the Dead.

When the Cauldron produces the evil fireborn, Elliot is forced to confront an army of these mythic undead with nothing but his obscure knowledge and the hope of finding the legendary Lady of the Lake to give him Arthur’s sword. Even more frightening is the idea that he might have to confront his ex-wife, Eleanor.

The Fireborn is part joyful romp through history, myth and legend, and part fast paced adventure set in modern England and New York. The entire book, though, revolves around Elliot’s relationships with a large variety of characters. These relationships form the key that may unlock the mystery or lead to utter defeat.

After I wrote that exciting “The End”, I did four more drafts.  And then I sat on it.  And sat on it.  In mid-2016 I picked it up once again, brushed it off and did a couple more drafts.  At last, it is coming close to time to publish!  Soon, soon…

Since I started the blog I have had a few posts about The Fireborn.  Many are from 2014, but there are some newer posts from 2017.  I’ll post the newer ones first:

The Fireborn has been mentioned many times and there other posts devoted to it, but this will do for now.

  14. Serendipitous Web Life. : )

Good evening, Trent. I was just reading some points on your book. I think it sounds interesting. I like fantasy, and you can’t go wrong with naked blue men (although I appreciated the history info). I noted a typo in the third bullet that says thinG instead of thinK. You’re an interesting man, so your writing is interesting. Fun bunny trail. : )

Thanks, I’ll have to go back and take a look at the typo. Actually, I have written another book since then (again along the lines of urban fantasy) and may end up just doing this one, The Fireborn, as a self-published book. And thanks again – I do have a lot of interests and so am involved in a lot of things!
